Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run is a life-changing program for girls third through eight grade. The program combines training for a 5K running event with lesson plans dealing with topics such as developing positive self-esteem, building healthy friendships, and dealing with bullying.

Girls on the Run aims to empower girls to celebrate their bodies, honor their voices and embrace their gifts. Our members are either coaches for GOTR, or we cheer on the girls at the 5k. We love being a part of an organization that supports Girls On The Run!

 PHILANTHROPY

Special Olpymics

Alpha Sigma Alpha adopted Special Olympics as a national philanthropy in 1976.

Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting respect and acceptance for members of society with intellectual and physical disabilities.

The Gamma Omega chapter raises funds for the Special Olympics through volunteering in the local Polar Plunge and planning our event Greek Grillmaster - a cookoff competition open to all fraternties, sororities, and other RSOs on campus. Our sisters also cheer on athletes at the annual Speical Olympics hosted at EIU each spring semester.

S. June Smith Center

The S. June Smith Center supports children with disabilities in achieving their full potential and promotes full participation within their family, school, and community.

The Gamma Omega chapter hosts Alpha's Amazing Race in order to play a part in the success of the S. June Smith Center. In this event, sororities and fraterntites race against each other to complete multiple scavenger hunt activities.

The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation

The Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation was founded in the hopes that each and every member of Alpha Sigma Alpha will someday reach her personal and professional goals. The Foundation is responsible for giving out scholarships to members throughout the nation to support this idea.

Every fall, the Gamma Omega chapter puts on a Mom's Weekend Banquet. At the banquet, there is a live auction of baskets donated from chapter members and their mothers. The money raised from the auction goes directly to the Alpha Sigma Alpha Foundation. Our chapter has won the award for Most Creative Fundraiser in our district for the past three years!
